Obidala Fanfiction.

An Introduction.

In June 2009 while I was going through a difficult time in my life, one which I am still struggling to emerge from the other side of, I returned to reading Star Wars fanfiction. My interest in the Saga began with the original trilogy, but when Episodes I-III were released, I was hooked.

At first I read the wonderful novels of Timothy Zahn, and my muses travelled the realm of Luke and Mara's relationship, which spread to the stories at fanfiction.net and the Force.net when I read spoilers about Sacrifice. Gradually, I became intrigued by over stories which covered the saga, AU variations which I found exciting to read. But I soon tired of the canon relationships, reading the same redemption theme over and over again, albeit with different elements.

I drifted into the time travel stories, which are still an interest of mine, before coming across First Knight by Arwyn Whitesun. I always felt that Obi-Wan Kenobi got handed a raw deal by the Saga, a hero who in my opinion achieved more than Anakin Skywalker ever did. As I read First Knight, I realised the great wealth which lay behind Obi-Wan centric stories, and I started searching for them.

It was then that I came across Mu-san's Piece of Heart and Lionchilde's One Path. I have an open mind when it come to relationships which ignore canon, so it did not seem wrong to explore what might have happened had Padmé and Obi-Wan fallen in love. I was not even half way through the stories before I realised what I'd missed out on all these years. My muses awoke to the idea of Obidala, and would not let go. Even when I watched the prequels to explore plot themes, I could not ignore what seemed to me the obvious chemistry between the characters. In Revenge of the Sith, there is a deleted scene which takes place during the scene at Padmé's apartment when Obi-Wan tells her that Anakin has turned, which in conjunction with the scene of Padmé's death, cemented this chemistry for me.

While I moved houses, my muses began to imagine my own Obidala saga, under various titles until I read the poems of Amy Lowell, where upon Episode I became Azure and Gold, and Episode II, The Calm Before The Mirage. I have chosen to focus on Obi-Wan and Padmé, adapting the plots to that angle, but keeping some of the original elements the same.

This is my first foray into Obidala and Star Wars, so forgive my errors if I have any. I have relied on transcripts of the movies, the novels, Wookiepedia and the Force.net. Any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors are my own.

Thoughts will be in Italics, Force speak also but within - hyphens -.
